The Working Nomad Project - What I attempted to achieve

July 2007 Update

One year on I am now earning over $8000 USD a month which is really exciting. I am still nomadic as well!

CNN Money have written an article as well which is cool. Things seem to be taking off now!!

July 2006 Update

Well I am glad to say I did achieve my goal of travelling on income from web sites. In fact I was almost GBP 2000 in the black when I came home!

The main reasons for this project

1. To travel through Asia for up to 9 months on earnings from my own web sites.
2. To inspire other people to give it a go as well.

One of the down sides of long term travel is coming home and having considerably less money in your bank account than when you set off. This has happened to me twice!

I have often dreamt of combining the adventure of travel with a sustainable source of income. Many people actually achieve this and are out on the road now as we speak earning money and doing what they love.

Here are some examples of people I have met

- A travel writer who was traveling and living in Thailand and submitting her articles to western publications.

- An artist who painted landscapes in Sri Lanka and sold them to locals and other travellers alike.

- A web designer who worked for clients in Holland while living and travelling in Malaysia.

- A landlord who was travelling around the world on the money earnt from letting out property.

Well these methods are not for everyone. You need a fair amount of money to get into real estate, travel writing is very competitive and often pays very little. Not everyone has skills to be a web designer or an artist.

My method is possible. There are heaps of resources on the web to help. You don't need to be a technical whizz. You just need a bit of hard work and some luck.

The second part of what I am trying to achieve is to inspire others to copy me in what I am doing. I am using this blog site 'working nomad' to prove that with some hard work and application this can be done!
