Anybody using a paid / free directory submission tool(s) ?
This would save some time.
Thanks.

If you have 1and1 hosting there is a program that you can download in the control panel that submits to directories -- I think it is called "Hello Engines". I used it on the first site I SEOed but I don't think it helped. I had to give my email out to a lot of directories and most of them spammed me. |

No complaints so far. |

Does submitting to a bunch of unknown directories help your site? Wouldn't it be better to just concentrate on a few good directories in your niche? _________________ Expat info for living in Bali |

Quality before quantity ... of course but the spammers publish my nice white hat minisites out of the market in no time anyway. Me 30 pages => they 30 000 pages .... . Me 20 quality directory links, they 20.000 links.
I'am thinking of setting up 2 systems instead of only 1/niche.
1. A clean content rich niche-ring of sites
2. A dirty mass-content keywordrecourse automated linkmachine
If not,..., it's gonna take, I estimate 10 years to earn 2.000 $ / month instead of 2 years.
But you do have a point.

Don't believe everythiing you read.
I have sites that ONLY have low quality directory links that still rank for some very competitive terms.
I have read, re-read and then read some more about how they don't help you at all. To date (yesterday actually) I have only read one dissenting view on that general consensus.
My personal experience is that the consensus is wrong. |

I tend to agree with Rob. I've seen little ROI for time spend on links and directories and huge ROI for carefully selecting and writing metatags, H1 and H2 stuff and decent content.
Generally, I don't bother with links and directories anymore. Links, sometimes, but only if we can exchange back and forth for 4-5-10 or more reasonably well ranked sites.
If it takes you ten years to make US$2000 per month - you're not really trying.
Content is king - or at least so far it has proven to be for me. But . . . I am only six months into working full time on my websites (twas a hobby before) and I'm not making US$2000 per month yet - but I can't see it being more than a year or two out - as I am a good portion of the way there already.
Content requires work - there is no magic formula beyond just actually doing your research and getting the work done IMO/IME. All the other stuff is just a distraction from the real work that needs to get done. Kind of a wheels spinning in the mud thing . . . _________________ Teach English Abroad |

Thanks for your comment Zark.
I guess I will have to do more 'real' work, like you describe it. I am gonna work in the library a few hours a day to avoid distraction from the net ... .

ROB and Neale,
What does "No complaints so far" [ROB] and ". . . with great success" [Neale] mean?
More traffic, more sales, increased Google PR - or ?
What was the bottom line result of the money invested and links/directory listings gained. _________________ Teach English Abroad |

It means the sites I submitted all had significant increases in their SERPS for the keyword terms I was chasing.
Some from 700 to top 20 on competitive keywords. A handful of top 5s on less competitive keywords.
Directory submission is not a silver bullet, but it is a tool you should use as part of your promotion arsenal.
Hell, do a test for a lousy $5 and see what happens to your serps for a particular keyword. |
