I would be very interested in hearing about books on the subject of working remotely. I am sure there will be lots of books on similar subjects such as working from home, affiliate marketing, teleworking etc but I have looked pretty hard and never found anything similar to this site.

This book on teleworking is the closest I have seen.

I have been thinking for a while how cool it would be to write a book on the subject and the topic has come up on our forum. I do wonder whether there is a market for such a topic though?

I am now back in England by the way. Due to certain circumstances I decided to come home a week or so early. I am about to start my second crop of websites and look forward to sharing all the ups and downs with you of starting again!

I have decided to change my emphasis on this blog by starting another web empire that will hopefully compliment the current one. This will benefit me as it will help to focus on new web projects and will benefit you as you see it evolve from the very beginning. Will I make it there faster with experience?

I will be following the plan in the working nomad ebook, the five site model, but this time I will be showing you what I am working on, my ideas and techniques and of course my new crop of websites. Lets call it webby’s second wave!

There will be less chat about where I am / moaning about airlines and more information what I am doing which will hopefully help anyone thinking of becoming a working nomad!

I will split my earnings reports into two and give more of a breakdown. There will also be a new category, probably named Webby’s second wave or something like that.

I am still keen for people to sign up and contribute to the blog at whatever stage of the WN cycle you are at, particularly any of our regulars on the WN Forum.

Please also note any newbies that you must now email me after you have signed up to the Forum. This is to stop the millions of spammers out there!

So I feel that the WN blog is coming back to life now, especially with our new bloggers and this new beginning for me.

So I am off now to look for a new niche area and I can honestly say I am pretty motivated now.

Working as a webmaster is a bit of a roller coaster ride with many emotional ups and downs, but the financial rewards, low barriers to entry and the freedom to be your own boss is simply unbeatable.

Just a note on Singapore Airlines while I sit here patiently at the Airport that is their hub.

I have never flown with them before and was quite full of eager anticipation to be flying with one of the best airlines in the world. I have to say they did not meet my expectations.

The leg room was really poor and it felt like a budget airline. The food was tasteless, poorly presented and cold. The staff were not the friendliest and one got the impression we were just in the way.

The ice cream they served after lunch took the skin of my lips as it was too frozen and I ended up with a bloody lolly. The same thing happened to the guy next to me as well. There was sheer panic in his face as the flavourless lump of orange ice dangled from his bottom lip.

On a positive their in-flight entertainment was excellent even though the brightness control on my screen was broken and set too dark.

I’m off to the airport bar now.

One good piece of advice is to see what your visitors have been searching on to find your site and give them what they want. So therefore I have a little Q&A below of genuine questions that have appeared in my keyword search referrals. It’s quite amusing how people can find your site!

Q. Bali belly how much weight did you lose?

A. After my ‘meat?’burger at Tubes Bar quite a bit seeing as I did not eat for three days. Its times like this you appreciate your own en-suite!

Q. Surfing in perhentian island?

A. Yes it is possible, but only during the monsoon momths of Nov - March. Bring your own board as well or your end up on a windsurf board like me!

Q. Cheapest place to retire to in Europe?

A. Hmm, I would say one of the Eastern European countries, perhaps Bulgaria or Romania.

Q. Travelling with no money whatsoever?

A. Not a good idea unless you want to end up like the foreign beggar on Silom Rd in Bangkok trying for his airfare home (or his flashy condominium rent).

Q. Impression of Switzerland?

A. Singapore minus the humidity.

Q. What is Singapore like?

A. Switzerland with humidity.

Q. Going to France to lose weight?

A. I cannot think of a worst country to go to! Try the UK or Finland (according to the soon to be ex-President Chirac of France who may have influenced the 2012 Olympic vote by declaring that British food is the worst in Europe apart from Finland, and apparently losing the support of the Finnish Olympic representative for the Paris bid. Ce la vie.)

Q. Best items to declare stolen when not?

A. Naughty naughty.

Q. How to collude playing online poker?

A. See above.

Q. What happens if you overstay your working holiday visa in australia?

A. Bad things so I’ve heard and that’s before they stamp you deported and ban you for x number of years.

Q. How to travel the world by working?

A. Now we’re talking!

So I am on the train now heading back South along the New South Wales coast after watching my Big Sister become and Ironman yesterday after 16 gruelling hours in the water, on two wheels and then two feet. It knackered me and my mother out just watching it.

Port Maquaire is an idyllic place but it reminds of something I read once in a Bill Bryson book. The solo traveller should always try and avoid this type of comfortable place.

There can be nothing more depressing for the lone traveller than seeing happy people go about there everyday life in such a pleasent location. It’s like peering into a suburban home through your camper van window (they’re my words, not Brysons).

I kind of get what he meant but luckily for me I had my family around me so I never got this sense of living on the edge of a contented society in a dreamy place.

I am off to the Blue mountains in a day after a short stop in Sydney. This Sunday I start the long journey home (wherever that is?) by flying to Bali for a week or so.

I will post the usual earnings report soon. No record month for March though. It has been a real up and down time having had some of my worst and best days in March!

I think I am getting ready to take things to the next level and have started to think seriously about the potential of income from websites.

I have been doing a lot of reading recently and have been updating some of my skills with the intention of releasing a new wave of income earning websites based around my 5 site model that’s illustrated in my ebook.

Incidentially I continue to sell quite a few copies of my ebook and this has prompted me to make more and updates which is a continual process. So if you are contemplating buying the ebook you can be assured that it is packed full of up to date information. We all know how quickly things change on the web.

The Working nomad blog will also have some new blood contributing soon once I have set up their accounts so you the follower will get to read some more accounts of people working towards and living their dream.

Here is a thought. How about we buy a boat, not a very expensive one, but decent enough to house 10 or 12 people.

On this boat we would install wireless satillite broadband and solar powered energy for our laptops. There would be some office and recreation space.

With laptops and backpacks we would set off to some of the most exotic locations and drop anchor for a few weeks before moving off again, perhaps following the summer season.

So all I need is a dozen willing working nomads, a boat, a RYA sailing qualification and a generous corporate sponsor.

Hi from a very wet and windy Sydney. I have arrived from a somewhat sunnier Auckland and plan to be here until tomorrow before heading up the coast to meet my family who are flying in from the UK.

I have actually been to Sydney before. Stayed in the dingy Kings Cross area where I am not in a hurry to get back to. I was having a discussion last night about Sydney compared to Melbourne - people generally are split on which they prefer (tourists).

I think if I were to live in either it would be Sydney. The big draw for me would be the possibility of living somewhere like Manley, a happening suburb with an ocean beach. I don’t like Bondi I’m afraid!

As a tourist destination I think I prefer Melbourne though. I really enjoyed strolling around the streets and taking it all in where as Sydney seems more business like.

So despite the showers and grey clouds I am off to Manly as there is surf and the water temperature is considerably higher than the air :)

River Surfing QueenstownToday I sold my car to a very dear 85 year old man and now back in the hands of public transport. I sold my little car for $250 which is just under half of what I paid so it proved a good investment. It was certainly cheaper than renting or buses!

So now I am on my way home via Auckland, Sydney and Hong Kong with some bits in between to fill. One of the biggest expenses of being a Working Nomad is travel so I am always keen to keep things down!

So using a combination of travel options I am able to fly to Auckland for less than NZ$ 100 from Christchurch, my flight to Sydney was just over NZ$ 160 and I have managed to book a first class train seat from Sydney to Port Macquire for a mere AU$ 60 which in incredible for such a long journey!

I was under the impression that train journeys in Australia were expensive but not so on this route. I am meeting one of my sisters and my Mother in Port Macquire as they are over for a couple of weeks. We are staying in a rented house that will be a nice change from dorms!

Yea I have been in dorms now over three months and I am looking forward to having my own space again. You kind of get used to dorms after a while but I am back in a hotel now and enjoying such delights of not having to creep around quietly at night and climbing into upper bunks!

I am currently looking at the cheapest way to get from Australia to the UK by air. The cheapest flight in the month of April that I have found (one way) is GBP 414 from Sydney to London Heathrow with Eitihad Airways based in the Middle East.

So with the introduction of no-frills Oasis Air that flys Hong Kong to London it should be possible to beat this fare. I am currently looking at this flight route…

Brisbane > Darwin (Jetstar)
Darwin > Singapore (Tiger)
Singapore > Macau (Tiger)
Macau > Hong Kong (1 hour ferry transfer)
Hong Kong > London (Oasis Air)

I have a rough figure of GBP 330.00 so far that will give me optional time in Singapore and Macau / HK which I have yet to visit and would like to explore.

This is the early stages of my research and I am not even sure about the Visa situation for Macau / HK and whether I would need a Chinese visa.

I had thought about going home via the Americas but cannot find any reasonably priced flights across the Pacific. It will be cheaper for me to fly from Europe.

Of course it would be much less hassle to fly Qantas or BA straight through but where would be the fun in that?

So I was enjoying running the Ipswich Town site as a hobby and quite happy with it’s popularity. The only marketing I did was to post in a couple of ITFC forums and to ask for relevent backlinks. I did not understand search engines at this time and only sort backlinks so people would follow them, not search engine spiders!

So early in 2002 I decided to create a website hosting company. I set up a reseller account with fasthosts.co.uk and then attempted to resell domain slots. I spent quite a bit of time designing the site (sorry cannot remember the domain name, will post it if it comes back to me!) but nothing promoting it. I still did not understand search engine marketing!

My problem was that website hosting is hugely competitive and I offered no unique selling point. I never got any traffic from search engines despite submitting the site. I had no backlinks to the site apart from my existing (non-relevent) site!

Basically the project was a disaster and with no one signing up after a number of months I pulled the plug on the site. A lesson was learnt though and this helped me seek a niche area to exploit which I did quite successfully in my next web project (which ultimately failed) . To be continued in part three.
