The damn thing had been playing up all day and loosened by a couple of beers over dinner I gave it a right old thump tonight. Now it won’t start and I think the hard drive has gone (along with all my music, software etc).
Going to take it to be looked at tomorrow. I guess KL is n’t a bad place to be if you need a new laptop.
Happy Easter!

OUCH! I hope you can get it repaired, and if you have to replace it, I hope data can be retrieved from your hard drive for you. At least KL is a high-tech sort of place where you should be able to find someone to do the data recovery and a replacement laptop won’t cost a fortune.

Well the good news is that my laptop is fine but the hard disk is dead. I can recover the data but it will cost me 1000 rm which is about $300.
Frankly it is not worth it, I have lost an entire web site I was working on (never uploaded it!), all my music, software and more.
As we speak it is having a new hard disk installed and it will only cost me $80 (USD) then I can go through the painfall process of getting it back to how it was.
It was a bit out of character for me to lose my cool. A hard lesson learnt I think. Don’t hit things that are important to you!

If you’re looking for ideas on a notebook to by, may I suggest the Fujitsu Lifebook P7120. It’s really small, light and complete.
Just a though. Good luck.

After 6 hours on the operating table my Toshiba Portege is back in action!
What a relief! The guys who fixed it were some of the friendliest people I’ve met. They admitted they were n’t going to make much money rebuilding the laptop as it took so long.
The even bought me a drink at the end!
I also have 8 gig more of hard disk space.

By the way Mike I have just purchased a 1GB memory stick as a complete back up. Definetly the way to go as my 512mb was always getting full as I have my portable browser and all my email on there.

Have you considered getting one of those rugged laptops? Or maybe you could use a remote backup service website.
I just found your site. Loving it.
