Long suffering misery might soon be over for followers of this site and forum. My web host are finally upgrading the server and when you get to read this the site should work much faster!
I appreciate the comments on the forum about how slow this site has been recently. It never seems so slow for me but perhaps that is because I tend to log on when the rest of the World are asleep!
Now that I am no longer nomadic (and really enjoying having a proper base!) I have been wondering where to take this site next. The forum is well established now as a focal point for remote workers so I am keen to continue to develop and support that.
So any ideas about what I could do with the rest of the site would be appreciated! Let me know what you think.

Its been down since about 9am Perth time to about 5pm Perth time (4 hrs behind NZ). Not too slow - just not loading at all. It really is the only site I visit regularly that has the problem!

Oops - sorry now I’ve actually read the post properly! I would turn the rest of the site over to how-to’s for beginner nomads and beginner webmasters - take the pure traffic stuff elsewhere - just my humble opinion. Oh yes you could have a page to feature those on the forum who CONTRIBUTE more than a 100 posts hint, hint!

The site has never been slow for me. The problem is that it doesn’t load. Who are your hosts anyways just out of curiosity? Hopefully the update will solve your problems. I agree with Lissie that I’ve never known a site to be down so much so I’d question the quality of the host but if they say it’s sorted then that’s good news.
As for what to do with the site, that’s a good question. I think when you have an established forum you’ve got a really good thing to be able to build on.
I think you’ve got some interesting tools and content pages in this site but they’re sort of buried. I would bring them to the forefront and maybe expand on them? Maybe write some static pages with different types of guides?
I guess it depends how much time you want to put into this because you’ve got other things on the go. Maybe getting a bit more involved in the whole community aspect of blogging will inspire you to work more on the site?

Well, since you now seem to be focusing more on the work and less on the travels, why not write about the work of website building?
One thing I’d really like to hear more about is how do you choose which website to build. Market research, just ask friends, or what?
And since you’re no longer nomadic, how much time do you spend on your sites now as opposed to before?
Do you spend more time link building, or more time creating content?
Do you create 30 websites and see which ones pan out, or do you focus on 3 or 4?
Do you still use adsense or only affiliates now?
And keep showing photos of beaches!! It’s what really inspires me to keep this up!

Thanks guys, some ggod tips there. Yes the site has been down much longer than was predicted for the migration however it is finished now and hopefully that should be the end of that - we will see. Any sign of serious issues and I will move host.
My problem has been that I cannot seem to move the forum or export it. I have tried various things from restoring the whole thing elsewhere to manual restores but never seems to work!
If it was straight forward I would have left this host months ago!

I second what Lissie say’s. I think this site has the greates appeal for beginners (or perhaps thats just because I’m one) rather than those already on their way. Besides, you could sell something like a hosting deal to beginners while those who have not started are basicly your competition, and collegues also of course.
My wish would be to see a case study of you creating one site from scratch. From concept to creation to traffic.

Due to a type the second last sentance is non sensical, should be:
Besides, you could sell something like a hosting deal to beginners while those who have started are basicly your competition, and collegues also of course.
I would like to add that it would also be a service to beginners to get good recommendations for such things as domain registrators, hosting companies and such. My experience with both is that the less you pay the worse service you get, if you get any at all. Sometimes it’s not worth saving a buck if time is lost waiting for a reply from an overworked service employe.
