It has been a while since I have written anything on the blog but I have been busy getting things sorted out here in sunny Auckland. Looking for somewhere to live and something to drive is a full time occupation.
So I have often banged on about taking things to a new level. It is easier said than done to raise your game especially if you have been lacking in motivation!
So after two years of growth I am finally getting someone on board to work with me full time for a month initially. A friend of mine in Auckland has been stuck in an employment rut and I am helping her out which I am sure will help me out as well.
I have used freelancers in the past to help on certain requirements but I have never had someone working with me side by side.
I am hoping that this temporary partnership will…
- Motivate me more to continue working and innovating
- Add lots of new content to existing websites (she is a good writer)
- A fresh pair of eyes and feedback for what I have done up to now
- Help kick start some new projects that have been on the back burner for a while
- New ideas for web projects through market research
So I am finally re-investing some of the money I have made and I am confident of an excellent return on this outlay.
It will be nice to work with another person for a while and I am hoping this could be the start of establishing a more serious web business.
My only regret is that I did not do this before now!

Hey that’s really cool. Will solve the problem of working alone all the time and I think the right person will really be able to kick things up a knotch for you.
How are you paying her? Is it a per hour thing? Based on level of output? And have you got her on a full time sort of wage or just a casual, part time thing?

I am paying her the same as what she received in her job that she is about to finish. She is currently working in retail management.
Will probably work with her half the time and then allow her to work freely to suit her lifestyle. She only has one day off at the moment poor thing!
So will be based on 35 hour week. Not a bad deal all around. It also enables her to get some experience in a new field.
I just hope things really take off as I would like to have someone working with me at least part/time on a longer term basis.
Nothing ventured and all that!

i’m hoping to get to that stage too - i’m a terrible copywriter, so need to get someone to churn out unique content for me.

Great good to see you moving foward again, I think as long as you remember the seeds you sow now “new content, changes, new sites” will not bear fruit for a good few months, like a tree though you will probably reap the rewards for many years after, great investment gotta be a winner having someone do 35 focused hrs a week.

I am really looking to get to the the point where I can hire others to grow my businesses and online ventures.
Until then its all about bootstrapping!
I have been consulting a jeweler on his online marketing efforts and we recently partnered with a highly trafficked blogger…
If it works out it will be great, products are made on demand, so there is no financial investment and the product’s profit margin allows enough commission to keep everyone motivated (and 10% goes to charity!)

Sounds like a milestone to be able to bring another person into the fold. I’m quite sure it’ll also add a new level of stress though. You’ll be working not just to support yourself - you’ll have someone else on the payroll.
Still, my good friend has been trying to get me to partner with him so we can take my site to the next level, and I’ve been resistant to give up on the Do It Yourself approach. He has also recommended that I stop trying to produce all the content myself.

Hey Webby getting someone else involved is the secret to much bigger success.
You’ve done really well up to now, but none of the big success stories did everything by themselves. It gives you more time to concentrate on the aspects that you enjoy/are best at and hopefully your friend will naturally enjoy doing the bits you don’t enjoy so much.
That’s how you build a winning team. Everyone involved is motivated because their job is doing the bit they enjoy the most. They don’t have to drag themselves up in the morning and “endure” working.
If you need anyone to create multimedia content for you in the future (esp. music) drop me a line, that’s the bit I love the most and am excellent at!
Good luck.
