Inspired by a comment on another website message board I am going to write a little about comfort zone. The comment went something along the lines on if your life is not making you wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat then you are not pushing your boundaries.
I am currently well within my comfort zone. I am surrounded by a familiar environment, with familiar people doing familiar things.
So what I am going to do about this? Well I am off to Singapore on Thursday to meet a friend from home who is working there for short while. Hardly pushing the boundaries of travel in Southeast Asia!
Well after that I am heading to Thailand to meet another friend for a few weeks. Still not pushing my boundaries I admit! Later in November I am travelling through Cambodia and Vietnam which should, in theory, take me out of the comfort zone.

Haven’t been to Vietnam but I think you’ll be surprised how easy Cambodia is to travel in, especially if you’re hitting the big 3 places - Siem Riep, PP and Sionoukville (totally spelt wrong). I would say to try and get off the beaten path a wee bit while you’re there and you’ll definately feel like you’re challenging yourself a bit more.

I am staying in a homestay in the middle of nowhere in Cambodia which should be a bit different from the usual hotel like room with cable TV and air-con!

Crossing the roads in Saigon will take you out your comfort zone!

Looking at the traffic in Saigon should take you out of your comfort zone. Remember, never slow down or change direction.
I’m just about to pay in advance for two months’ accomodation in Chiang Mai. That feels really funny, to be planning to stay.

Travelling in Vietnam is very much a tour-based thing; tours are far cheaper than independent travel. So to take yourself out of your comfort zone, I recommend you head down to the Mekong Delta by public transport. Few tourists ever get down there. My account of ny time there is here: http://www.yearinthelife.org/entry.php?id=177
