I have been asked to write a piece for a well known travel magazine (paper) on the whole Working Nomad thing which is pretty exciting for me. They are interested in two things. How I managed to get where I am now and other ways people can travel and work aside from running websites.
This discussion has come up a few times and I have a few ideas but would love you to give me some more to think about. Something other than running websites but can still be conducted remotely.
I’d appreciate any ideas and if you have a really good idea I will reward you with a link to your site from the WN home page! Woooo hoooo!
Don’t forget that I love helping people out so don’t be afraid to ask me anything as well.

Most of the ideas I have for being a WN involve the internet, but other options could include:
Travel writer, photographer, investigator (PI?), courier, film/documentary maker, tour guide, dive master, rafting guide, restaurant/hotel type consultant (many Asian businesses need help with service/menus to appeal to fussy westerners), export/importer, researcher, market research, country intelligence, buyer, sports trainer, programmer, artist/designer, language teacher, rewriter, editor
The possibilities are endless.
Did the magazine contact you after seeing the site?

Webby,
Since the rise in gas prices, more people have been telecommuting. It is a possibility that people would be able to do their regular jobs remotely from anywhere in the world. For those who cannot(or don’t) want to do any of the things mentioned above, they could ask their employer to work from home. Maybe even take a cut in pay. It’s worth to ask the boss if you could do a trial run from home before taking off to a different land.

You are getting paid for this, right? Big magazines pay for articles…

Yes I think they will pay for me. I actually contacted them initially with my press release.
The Editor said they are extremely interested in doing a piece on me but they need something more substantial than the press release.
They gave me lots of individual advice and tips as well so the must be interested!
I’ve had to wait 34 years for my 15 mins of fame but it might just be around the corner!
